Copland and Dance continues to explore the realm of movement within music and its potential for storytelling. Aaron Copland’s “Ballet for Martha” or “Appalachian Spring” is perfectly suited to this endeavor and students are encouraged to compare and contrast narrative techniques in dance inspired by music and experiment with developing their own physical vocabulary. Students will be asked to assess and compare choreography in terms of what it communicates and how it portrays mood, emotion, or action.
