Stravinsky in Drama features Histoire du Soldat and utilizes the average third grader’s affinity for imaginative play and skits by allowing them the opportunity to form an alternate story line to the scripted performance. The performance, in either trio or chamber version, will be performed in collaboration with an actor/playwright. Before beginning the play, excerpts will be performed and the students will be asked to assign action words that correspond with the music to aid in recognition of the themes while listening to the performance. Following the performance, student volunteers will be asked to participate by stepping in for one or two of the actors during various scenes which will then be reconstructed with different props in an improvisatory manner.
