Pictures of Stars is the first in a series of new STEAM-oriented commissions to be presented in high school classrooms as interactive performances that teach scientific, mathematical, engineering, and technological concepts with engaging musical discussion. Pictures of Stars by Daniel Harrison was written for Andrea Vos-Rochefort, clarinet, and Kate Alexandra, double bass, and depicts a giant white dwarf star running out of nuclear fuel and exploding and two neighboring white dwarfs where one steals energy from the other and eventually explodes.
